Business organizations that keep their customers at the forefront of every decision are often loved by people. Similarly, the human population expects the same from tech companies as well. They want organizations to leverage humanistic perspectives of artificial intelligence and computing while working on disruptive products.

Now, people are more reliant on technology than ever before. When simple computing came into effect over a century back, nobody anticipated that the world will take a digital twist in the upcoming years. But how much of the technology is actually looking at human perspectives and is working for human good is still unanswered. It adds up to the trouble of society to invent and proliferate artificial intelligence technologies that benefit humankind. People also expect to see disruptive trends that can benefit humanity and shield the planet against negative impacts. But with more inflow of data and extreme supervision and surveillance, people’s privacy is put at risk. Therefore, companies have to keep humanistic perspectives of artificial intelligence and computing before anything else when they are innovating new products or solutions. Besides, countries and international organizations are coming up with legislations like GDPR and ePrivacy in the EU and the Data Protection Bill in the United States to keep people’s information secure.


Positive Impacts of AI in Society

Artificial intelligence and computing have the capability to revolutionize our workplace and snowball profits. It also takes over repetitive and dangerous tasks from humans and provides enough time for employees to use their intellect for further business improvement. The influence of artificial intelligence in the healthcare and education sectors is no joke. 

Just a couple of decades back, over 99% of work in medical institutions was done manually. Hospital staff used to keep written records of patients’ data. But things have changed ever since. Everything starting from digital healthcare data records to telemedicine facilities, robotic surgeons, assistant robots, medicine delivery, diagnostics, and smart wearables are powered by artificial intelligence. Students get to have education in their hands, thanks to the smartphones and edtech platforms that provide real-time and online classes. 

Not just this, artificial intelligence and computing are invading law, criminal detection, space activities, entertainment, and many others. In some way or the other, everybody is engaged with technology in a form. This has put humanistic perspective at the top of all other priorities. Since technology is developed for humans, it is fair to demand a human-centered solution that could bring positive changes to society. 


The Time is Ripe to Apt for a Humanistic Approach

Every time an individual or a company comes up with new AI-based innovation, their goal is to satisfy human preferences. Therefore, it is time for organizations to keep the value at the forefront of AI products. They are allowing machines to behave very differently than the traditional, standard model of artificial intelligence technology known today. But achieving the humanistic perspectives in artificial intelligence and computing is not easy. It involves machines validating what humans want without failing their nature. For example, if you ask an autonomous car to drive you to the railway station, it will do so. But in case you want the car to take you back to your destination in the middle, then it should either fail your previous order or your current demand. Somehow, the machine is doing wrong. Unfortunately, autonomous cars don’t know what is wrong and need their instructor to teach it. That is the artificial intelligence and computing advance we are expecting for. 

As a positive initiative, countries are joining their hands together to address the emerging artificial intelligence issues in society. In 2019, many countries participated in the conference organized by UNESCO in collaboration with the government of Japan to discuss AI in creating important opportunities and challenges to modern society.
