Swiggy Annual Report 2025: Biryani Continues Its Decade-Long Streak as India’s Most Ordered Food
Swiggy recently released its 2025 annual report, where it mentions that Biryani has been the most ordered dish on the app for ten years now. In 2025, people ordered 93 million plates of this dish, which is close to 194 orders every minute.
The report states, “Biryani is the undisputed King, proving that while trends may come and go, India's deep-rooted love for this aromatic masterpiece remains constant.” Chicken Biryani was the most popular version by far.
The Biryani Monopoly and Rising Fast Food Trends
Burgers were the second most ordered dish with over 44.2 million orders. Pizzas followed closely behind in third place.
The high profit from Biryani allows apps to offer niche items. Without this monopoly, smaller food trends would likely fail to survive. Every Biryani order helps keep the whole delivery network alive and profitable.
Late-Night Cravings and Regional Flavors
Late-night hunger is a huge new trend in India. Orders between midnight and 2 AM are growing very fast. People often choose burgers, biryani, and pizza for their late meals. Swiggy's Food Marketplace CEO Rohit Kapoor said, “In India, food is never just food, it's how moments begin—a hurried ‘quick bite’ that turns into comfort food or that late night when hunger arrives before sleep does.”
Meanwhile, regional food is also seeing a massive boom. Orders for Pahari food grew by 9 times this year. Malabari and Rajasthani dishes also became much more popular. Indians want authentic tastes delivered right to their doors. This trend reveals a unique shift toward digital heritage.
People are using technology to find local recipes. This is a way to fight back against boring, mass-produced meals. Consumers now use apps to find a specific cultural identity through taste. This turns a simple delivery into a small trip home, proving that technology can actually protect local traditions rather than just replacing them.
