First Supercharger Hub Opens in Mumbai After Model Y India Launch. Delhi Showroom Coming Next!
Tesla has taken a big step in India by opening its first Supercharger hub at Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). This charging station started working on August 4, 2025, just a few weeks after the company launched the Model Y in India and opened the first Tesla India showroom in Mumbai.
The charging station has eight outlets in total. Four are V4 Superchargers, which are very fast and can charge a Tesla quickly. The other four are AC destination chargers, which charge more slowly and are better for overnight use.
Charging Costs and Speed Explained
For those using the V4 Superchargers, the cost is Rs. 24 for every unit of electricity (kWh). Since the Model Y has a battery size between 60 and 75 kWh, a full charge will cost between Rs. 1,400 and Rs. 1,800. The slower chargers cost around Rs. 14 per unit, which brings the full charge cost down to Rs. 900 to Rs. 1,100. However, the charging takes a much longer time.
The V4 Superchargers can add around 267 km of driving range in just 15 minutes. This makes Tesla’s charging setup useful for long trips and quick top-ups during busy days.
More Supercharger Hubs and Showrooms Coming Soon
This new station is just the beginning. The company has plans to open three more Supercharger hubs in Mumbai - in Lower Parel, Thane, and Navi Mumbai - by the end of September 2025. These new locations will make it easier for car owners to find charging points across the city.
The launch comes shortly after the Model Y India launch, which introduced two versions of the electric SUV - rear-wheel drive and long-range. The starting price is Rs. 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom), and the car is built for both city driving and longer road trips.
In addition to the showroom located in Mumbai, Tesla will have its second setup in Delhi on August 11, 2025. This shows the company’s focus on penetrating the Indian market, starting with Tier-1 cities.
Charging and payments can be handled effortlessly over the Tesla app. The app assists drivers in locating available chargers, checking charging speeds, and watching battery status in real-time.
Considering that petrol is already above Rs. 100 per litre, an electric car such as the Model Y is very economical over time. In India, Tesla seems to be preparing for heavy demand by setting up showrooms and supercharging stations.
