Bhagyalakshmi Questions Mohanlal's Public Endorsement of Dileep After Acquittal

Actor and dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi was highly critical of Mohanlal’s recent actions. She termed his cameo role in actor Dileep's 'Bha Bha Ba' as 'insensitive' and 'thoughtless'. This incident occurred only a few weeks after Dileep’s acquittal in the assault case of an actress that occurred in 2017.

In response to Mohanlal’s cameo appearance in Dileep’s film, Bhagyalakshmi questioned, "Did Mohanlal even pause for a moment before sharing that poster right after the verdict? We repeatedly heard him say, I pray for her (the survivor). When someone with that kind of influence does this, what message is being sent to survivors? " She also slammed Dileep after the release, saying that “He appeared jubilant, addressing the media and attacking his former wife, Manju Warrier, who had supported the investigation.”

The survivor’s legal fight was a deeply painful and long one. Bhagyalakshmi claimed the survivor faced more "humiliation" in the courtroom than during the actual assault. Her persistence over eight years is a testament to extraordinary strength and resilience. The case became a turning point, creating the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC). It also led to the formation of the Hema Committee to address gender issues.

WCC has repeatedly affirmed solidarity with the survivor using the campaign "#Avalkoppam" ("With Her"). They highlighted her journey "of being a victim to becoming a survivor." Her courage in upholding "faith in the system" continues to inspire.

However, the real-world emotional and social cost that a survivor, especially a woman who had struggled for nearly a decade, pays is certainly not merely restorable by the final legal outcome. Acquittal by the law on the part of the accused may or may not dismiss the reality that the survivor experienced.
