Film Fraternity Mourns the Loss of Legendary Actor Dharmendra; Family at Crematorium
Bollywood superstar Dharmendra passes away at 89, just a few weeks before his birthday. The veteran actor’s health was unstable and he was recently hospitalized at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital. Dharmendra was soon discharged from the hospital on 12 November 2025 to continue his treatment at home.
The actor’s wife, Hema Malini, and daughter, Esha Deol, were spotted near the crematorium on Monday afternoon. Key figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra’s CM Devendra Fadnavis, and the actor’s colleagues, expressed tribute to the legendary actor.
Celebrities and Family Arrive for Last Rites
The final rites for Dharmendra were conducted at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai. His sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, were also present at the cremation ceremony.
Many film fraternity members, including Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan, came to the crematorium to pay their last respects to the actor. Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh, and Deepika Padukone also attended the final rites, mourning the loss. The film industry came together, showing deep respect for the veteran actor.
Tribute to the Legendary Actor
Filmmaker Karan Johar posted an emotional tribute, calling him a "massive mega star." He was described as a bona fide Legend of Indian Cinema, forever present in its history.
As shared by ANI on X (previously Twitter), the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, said, “The passing of veteran actor Dharmendra has brought immense sorrow to the Deol family as well as to his countless fans. We share in their grief and pray that God gives them the strength to bear this loss. With his demise, the film industry has suffered a tremendous loss, and we pay heartfelt homage to him.”

PM Modi also wrote, “The passing of Dharmendra Ji marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. He was an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor who brought charm and depth to every role he played.” He further added that, “The manner in which he played diverse roles struck a chord with countless people. Dharmendra Ji was equally admired for his simplicity, humility and warmth. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family, friends and innumerable fans. Om Shanti”
