YouTube's global campaign to combat ad blockers

Ad Blockers are tools or extensions that users employ to prevent ads on YouTube. To combat the use of ad blockers YouTube is taking action. They are launching a global effort to encourage users to either enable ads or consider subscribing to YouTube Premium.

When users with ad blockers try to watch videos on YouTube, they will see a notice that says they can't watch the video unless they whitelist YouTube by allowing ads or disable their ad blocker.

Users may still be able to watch videos after getting the notification regarding their stance on ad blockers. The notifications will serve as a reminder to the users. However, as reported by Android Authority, YouTube is increasingly blocking content for users with ad blockers installed.

According to YouTube communications manager Christopher Lawton, the use of ad blockers do not adhere to the platform's terms of service. He has also stated that the ads play a crucial role in supporting the ecosystem of YouTube content creators. They enable the users to access content on YouTube.

YouTube, this year, has come up with a lot of new ad strategies. On its TV app, they are experimenting with 30-seconds longer ads which are unskippable. Though the ads are longer, there will be less frequent ad breaks on television.

They are aiming to drive more users to subscribe to YouTube Premium, although a recent $2 price increase and the discontinuation of the cheaper Premium Lite plan are expected to impact the users.
