Xiaomi introduced its first EV, the SU7 sedan and emerged as one of the major EV brands in China within a short period

Xiaomi Corp is expected to complete the construction of its electric vehicle factory expansion in mid-2025, as reported by government-backed Chinese media on October 23. 

The report indicates that the workers were working overtime to complete the project. 

It is located adjacent to the first-phase factory in Beijing's Yizhuang New Town. This area is known for its economic growth and has attracted numerous technology companies.

Second Phase of Xiaomi Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Base To Be Completed on June 15

The second phase of the Xiaomi Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Base is scheduled to be completed on June 15, according to a report by the National Business Daily citing a person familiar with the project.

Xiaomi refused to make any comment regarding the report.

The company entered into the EV business in 2021. It is a part of its diversification strategy from smartphone manufacturing.

Last year in December, Xiaomi introduced its first EV, the SU7 sedan. The SU7 sedan emerged as one of the major EV brands in China within a short period. 

The company sold a total of 70,000 units of SU7 cars by September end. The delivery of the EV started in March.

SU7 Has a Speed of  265 Kilometers Per Hour

The high-end model of the SU7 has a range of 800 kilometres and a top speed of 265 kilometres per hour. 

It has speed more than its rivals, the Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model S. It hits 100 kilometres per hour in 2.78 seconds, delivering quicker acceleration than the German and American cars.

Xiaomi Spent US$10 Billion on R&D

Xiaomi has spent US$10 billion over ten years on R&D. Xiaomi released its first EV within three years. 

The model was released partnering with Beijing Automobile Works Group. Lei Jun said Xiaomi will become “one of the world’s top five automobile brands in 15–20 years.”

Xiaomi said it received more than 50,000 advance orders for the SU7—short for Speed Ultra 7 just 27 minutes after its release.
