Iran Appoints New Supreme Leader After Deadly US-Israeli Strikes in Tehran
The Israel Defense Forces began new attacks against missile launch facilities throughout Iran during the second week of the US-Iran war. Israeli forces said the attacks targeted long-range ballistic missile infrastructure and a rocket engine production facility near Tehran.
Military officials confirmed that more than 140 targets had been struck in recent operations, which increased pressure on Iranian defense capabilities.
Drone Strike Damages Bahrain’s Largest Oil Refinery
Tensions spread across the Gulf after an Iranian drone strike hit areas near Sitra, where Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) operates the country’s largest oil refinery. Eyewitnesses cited by Reuters reported thick smoke rising from the refinery complex.
Authorities in Bahrain confirmed injuries and property damage, highlighting growing concerns that energy infrastructure across the region may become a primary target.
Iran Names New Supreme Leader Amid Escalation
Iran’s political leadership also shifted dramatically after Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed Supreme Leader following the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in earlier US-Israeli strikes.
Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps pledged allegiance to the new leader and launched the “first wave of missiles” under his command toward Israeli-controlled territories.
Gulf States Intercept Missiles and Drones
After Iran launched its retaliatory strikes, several Gulf nations activated their air defence systems. Saudi Arabia reported that its air force successfully intercepted drones that were flying towards the Shaybah Oilfield located in the Rub al-Khali desert.
The United Arab Emirates confirmed its missile interception attempts while Qatar announced that its military forces had successfully intercepted an incoming missile after security alerts were elevated.
Regional Impact and Strategic Outlook
The US-Iran war news developments show how the conflict has expanded from direct combat areas to new territories of fighting. Gulf countries now face growing threats to their energy infrastructure, military bases, and diplomatic missions.
The analysts observe that the current situation resembles previous Middle Eastern wars, which made oil facilities essential military objectives. The ongoing retaliatory strikes will create extended periods of uncertainty for both regional stability and global oil market operations.
