Emergency Crews Rush to Shizuoka Factory as Suspect Is Taken Into Custody
Masaki Koyama, a 38-year old man, injured around 14 people at a tire factory in Mishima city, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The attacker reportedly used a knife and liquid spray to harm the people. The victims were conscious and immediately hospitalized. Police arrested the suspect, but his exact motive is not known.
Emergency Response and Casualties
The emergency response began quickly after a call at 4:30 p.m. from a Yokohama Rubber factory. Local authorities sent many ambulances to the Mishima site. Fire official Tomoharu Sugiyama stated, "Fourteen people are subject to transportation by emergency services." Initial reports said several workers were stabbed. Medical teams treated 15 people in total. Eight victims suffered from knife wounds. Seven others were hurt by a chemical spray, whereas five people were in serious condition.
The arrival of hazmat teams shows Japan’s focus on eliminating chemical risks. This quick response reflects past trauma from liquid-based attacks. This specific readiness likely stopped the spray from causing more breathing problems.
Suspect Apprehended at the Scene
Police caught a 38-year-old man at the factory for attempted murder. The suspect had a survival knife during the attack and wore what looked like a gas mask. The man lived in Mishima and worked at the plant. Sugiyama noted that the first caller said, "five or six people were stabbed by someone." Police are still looking for a clear motive.
Police has arrested Masaki Koyama following the violent attack at the Yokohama Rubber factory. Quick emergency response and specialized hazmat teams helped save lives. The criminal reportedly used gear to stay safe while hurting others. This suggests the crime was planned. Authorities are still working to find a motive for his actions.
