Wipro and IIT-Delhi join forces on generative AI center of excellence
On August 16, Wipro announced the establishment of a Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) center of excellence at IIT Delhi's Yardi School of Artificial Intelligence (ScAI).
Wipro stated that its collaboration with the university will "support foundational and applied research, nurture talent, and expand the state of the art in this critical field."
Wipro said in July that it would invest US$1 billion in AI to train its 2.5 lakh workers over the next three years.
Wipro stated that the center of excellence is part of the US$1 billion commitment.
Wipro said in a statement that the center would be a research and development hub that will bring together "Wipro researchers with ScAI faculty members and graduate students to address at-scale real-world problems." Teams at the facility will collaborate to develop solutions based on AI, ML, and other technologies.
"This collaboration will not only enhance our research and development capabilities in emerging areas such as generative AI but will also connect us with a talent pool that will help us build advanced solutions to address existing and emerging business problems," said Wipro's Chief Technology Officer, Subha Tatavarti.
"We are delighted to collaborate with Wipro to create new learning and growth opportunities for our students," said Professor Mausam, Head of the Yardi School of AI at IIT Delhi. Our students will get significant insight into industry-relevant challenges due to the establishment of this Centre of Excellence, and they will see firsthand how their technical knowledge transfers to business situations. Finally, our collaboration with Wipro will benefit everyone and considerably help India progress in these key new technological domains."
Wipro has previously said that the company has been investing in a generative AI center of excellence for over two years and researching with prominent academic institutions.
