Everything you need to know about Google’s Bard AI. A rival bot based on the LaMDA language model
Intro: Bard is Google’s experimental conversational AI chat service. It is intended to function similarly to ChatGPT, with the main difference being that Google’s service will pull all of its information from the web. Google’s Bard AI is a competing chatbot that was created to supplement the company’s search engine.
Bard is based on Google’s LaMDA language model, which is similar to GPT-3.5 from ChatGPT. This means it can hold conversations on a wide range of topics and generate entirely new text that does not exist anywhere else. Similar to ChatGPT and Bing Chat, Google’s Bard is a generative and conversational AI chatbot. According to the company, Bard can assist with creative tasks, explaining complex topics, and generally distilling information from various internet sources. The chatbot will also be able to assist with more complex queries, such as finding recipes tailored to the ingredients in your refrigerator. That is currently not possible with Google Search alone.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, announced Bard on February 6 in a statement. Even though Bard was a brand-new concept at the time of its unveiling, the AI chat service is powered by Google’s Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA), which was introduced two years ago. According to the release, the initial version of Bard will use a lightweight model version of LaMDA because it requires less computing power and can be scaled to more users. Bard, like other machine learning-based chatbots, will almost certainly cost Google a lot of computational resources. Limiting Bard’s visibility and usage to a small number of users may allow the company to gradually reduce these costs. The primary distinction between Bard and ChatGPT is that Google’s chatbot will have access to real-time internet information. Bard could also work in non-search Google products such as Android, Chrome OS, Gmail, Docs, and even the Chrome web browser. Google’s Bard chatbot may provide voice interaction and other advantages over ChatGPT.
