Microsoft Hires Sam Altman, Former OpenAI Leader, to Head New AI Team

According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, former OpenAI CEO Sam Altman will join Microsoft to manage a new advanced AI research division.

Nadella announced on the social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, that Altman and Greg Brockman, former OpenAI president and board chair, will be joining Microsoft.

Altman reshared Nadella's message, adding a slightly cryptic comment: "The mission continues."

Altman has been the company's CEO since 2019. The board of OpenAI said late Friday that it was ousting Altman and temporarily replacing him with technical head Mira Murati.

Altman, according to the report, "was not consistently candid in his communications with the board." This did not deter a group of OpenAI investors who were pressing for Altman to return as CEO over the weekend.
