Intel Targets AI Market with Programmable Chip Unit
According to Intel's CEO Sandra Rivera, AI represents a significant and possibly profitable opportunity for the company's newly independent programmable chip segment.
Rivera is Intel Corporation's senior vice president and the CEO of the Programmable Solutions Group.
Intel's programmable chip branch began operating as a distinct corporation earlier this year, and on Thursday it announced its future ambitions.
The parent business intends to do a stock offering for Altera during the next two to three years.
Rivera said the programmed chips Altera designs are beneficial for AI applications and computing jobs that sit somewhere between purpose-built bespoke processors.
