India's Plan to Build AI Climate Models for Better Forecasting

The Indian Meteorological Department intends to use AI models to enhance forecasting, particularly for extreme weather events such as floods and droughts.

According to a prominent local weather authority, the Indian government is trying AI in the creation of climate models.

According to Reuters, K.S. Hosalikar anticipates AI-based climate models and advisories to assist in enhancing forecasting, particularly for extreme weather situations.

The IMD now employs forecasting methods based on mathematical models and supercomputers.

Hosalikar stated that AI is already in place to assist in the creation of public notifications for extreme weather events such as heat waves and disease epidemics such as malaria.
