EU Politicians Support New AI Rules in Key Committees

European parliamentarians in two key committees have adopted new regulations for AI ahead of a historic vote.

On Tuesday, the European Parliament's civil liberties and consumer protection committees decisively approved temporary legislation

The AI Act aims to establish guidelines for a technology that is used in a variety of industries, including banking and automobiles.

“At the same time, it aims to boost innovation and establish Europe as a leader in the AI field,” the parliament said in a statement.

The law is widely regarded as a global precedent for governments seeking to capitalize on the potential benefits of AI.
