ChatGPT Detector Spot Fakes Papers Written by AI With High Precision
According to a study published on November 6 in Cell Reports Physical Science1, a machine-learning algorithm can quickly detect when chemistry articles are authored using the chatbot ChatGPT.
The specialized classifier, which beat two previous AI detectors, might aid academic publishers in identifying publications generated by AI text generators.
"Most of the field of text analysis wants a really general detector that will work on anything," says Heather Desaire, a chemist at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, and co-author.
According to Desaire, the findings show that attempts to create AI detectors might be aided by adapting algorithms to certain forms of writing.
Desaire and her colleagues presented their ChatGPT detector for the first time in June when they used it to Perspective articles from the journal Science2.
