ChatGPT and Other AI Tools Are Enabling a Surge of Phishing Emails
According to a recent analysis by cybersecurity firm SlashNext, there has been a 1,265% increase in malicious phishing emails.
This has been happening since the fourth quarter of 2022 and a 967% spike in credential phishing in particular.
Cybercriminals are employing generative AI tools such as ChatGPT to assist them in the creation of sophisticated, targeted business email compromise (BEC) and other phishing communications.
The report's findings emphasise how quickly AI-based threats are evolving, particularly in terms of speed, volume, and complexity.
Almost half of the cybersecurity experts polled said they had been the subject of a BEC assault, and 77% said they had been the target of phishing attempts.
