Volvo Cars to Use Nvidia-Powered Software

Volvo Cars to utilize Nvidia-powered software to reduce costs in future EVs

Volvo Cars will leverage single software powered by Nvidia and utilize megacastings to reduce manufacturing costs for electric cars.

Electric EX90 Model

In an event held in Gothenburg, Volvo said that the flagship electric EX90 model will come up with a single "technology stack" for all its car models. This flagship model will be available to the customer from this month onwards.

Chief Engineering & Technology Officer Anders Bell mentioned that the company will depend on "megacastings," a process similar to gigacasting that employs enormous presses to create large, single aluminium pieces of vehicle underbodies.

"The primary goal is to make the car better and have a more sticky product, not to sell a lot of subscriptions," Bell said.

Bell mentioned that by employing megacasting, Volvo will be able to significantly boost the utilization of recycled aluminum and cut down on emissions across its entire supply chain.

Leading automakers believe that software based-electric vehicles will help to earn billions of dollars additional along with earning revenue from subscription services while Bell said that he would not use this business model.

Tesla Leading Gigacasting Innovation

Tesla is leading in employing giga casting as more automobile companies like General Motors and Nissan have started to adopt this technology.

Volvo Cars on Electric Vehicles

Volvo Cars is dedicated to becoming a fully electric car company by 2030. By 2025, Volvo aims for 50% of its global sales coming from fully electric vehicles, with the other half being hybrids.
