[18th July 2023] The UAE Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Office for Climate Education (OCE) and Alef Education, is proud to announce the launch of the 'Educators' Voice initiative. This groundbreaking project aims to empower educational professionals worldwide to promote awareness and action on climate change. The initiative will be highlighted during the upcoming 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) hosted by the UAE in Dubai Expo City this November.
The 'Educators' Voice' initiative seeks to encourage educators from around the globe to participate and showcase their climate projects actively. As part of this initiative, side events related to climate action will be organized in the Education Pavilion. This marks a historic moment, as the Education Pavilion will be featured for the first time in the history of COP.
Furthermore, the initiative aims to establish a lasting legacy for the post-COP28 era by translating all OCE resources into Arabic for widespread use and distribution in the MENA region. Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi, Assistant Under-Secretary of the Care and Capacity Building Sector at the Ministry of Education, emphasized the significance of the 'Educators' Voice initiative in empowering and preparing educators worldwide while nurturing their innovative and creative potential.
"The Ministry of Education is committed to continue collaborating with all local, regional, and international strategic partners to develop initiatives and programs to raise awareness about the importance of education in addressing climate change and tackling its challenges. We strive to provide students with climate education and environmentally conscious skills to enhance their ability to adapt to climate change impacts and prepare for its consequences.”," said Dr. Al Shamsi.
In conjunction with the 'Educators' Voice initiative, the OCE will organize the third edition of the TeachersCOP competition. This global event aims to raise awareness among international officials and decision-makers regarding the impactful work carried out by teachers in addressing climate change challenges and enhancing the global response to this pressing issue.
Teachers, trainers, school principals, and inspectors who have implemented activities or initiatives to increase awareness about climate change can apply to participate in the TeachersCOP competition. The application form is available on the official website, http://www.oce.global/teacherscop, and must be submitted before September 30, 2023. An expert committee will evaluate the applications and select 30 outstanding projects by October 9, 2023. The winning teachers can present their projects in person during the COP28 conference at Expo Dubai.
Eric Guilyardi, President of the OCE, said, “The TeachersCOP event sheds light on the unwavering commitment and dedication of educational professionals who play a significant role in integrating climate issues within the education system. Their utilization of the educational process as a powerful tool for reshaping climate concepts and their continuous dedication to creating a daily impact strengthens the global response to climate change. This event is a recognition of their efforts and a platform where they can share their work with fellow educators from around the world in an interactive way.”
In partnership with its collaborators, the OCE will also organize regional webinars in Arabic, French, Spanish, and English. The primary goal of these seminars is to promote active engagement of educators worldwide and enhance the number of projects.
