Thanks to Bing AI, Microsoft crosses 100 million active users, an increase in engagement

Microsoft’s search engine, Bing has crossed 100 million daily active users only a month after the launch of its chatbot AI. Bing’s usage has steadily increased recently, but it appears that the new Bing Chat feature is assisting Microsoft in increasing usage among people who have never used Bing before.

Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s Vice President for Modern Life, Search, and Devices acknowledged that Bing is still a small player in the search engine market but emphasized the progress it has made since the introduction of the Bing AI chatbot. The release of Bing’s next-gen version helped in reaching new users whom it did not previously have access. Microsoft has also reported an increase in engagement, with more people using Bing to conduct searches. The company attributes this success to the Edge usage and the implementation of the Prometheus AI model, which has resulted in more relevant search results.

“We see this appeal of the new Bing as a validation of our view that search is due for a reinvention and of the unique value proposition of combining Search + Answers + Chat + Creation in one experience,” Mehdi said. Bing’s chat AI is now being used by one-third of the company’s daily preview users. Microsoft is seeing three chats per session on average, with over 45 million chats since the launch of the new Bing. This is the first time Microsoft has disclosed Bing’s daily active user count, and the AI chatbot plays a significant role. Mehdi observes that nearly one-third of daily active users are new to Google. Aside from the increase in new users, Microsoft is also seeing an increase in engagement as more people conduct more searches. Microsoft’s integration of an artificial intelligence chatbot into Bing has given the search engine a competitive advantage over Google. The launch of Bing’s AI chatbot on mobile was particularly successful, resulting in a six-fold increase in daily active users. This addition of Bing’s Chatbot AI has become more appealing to users, especially those who prefer a conversational approach to searching. Microsoft’s efforts to improve search results’ relevance and user experience have also contributed to Bing’s growing popularity.
