Lenskart's 'B' Smartglasses Allow India's Developer Community to Explore AI & Camera Ecosystem
Lenskart announces plans to launch its AI-powered smartglasses, B by Lenskart, in India. It envisions making these smartglasses available to the developer ecosystem. This move will allow various consumer apps and third-party developers to use their camera and AI technology.
Applications that offer services related to food delivery, fitness tracking, entertainment, and digital payments can greatly benefit from this integration. Here’s how Lenskart plans to create one of India’s first full-stack wearables ecosystems.
Enabling India-Specific Use Cases
Lenskart is opening its "B by Lenskart" smartglasses platform to Indian developers. This aims to build India-specific use cases for the new device. The company is reportedly planning to make its AI and camera technology usable for consumer apps like Zomato, Swiggy, and BookMyShow. The company has planned integrations across trending app categories, including food delivery and entertainment.
Currently, Lenskart has integrated UPI payments with the smartglasses. Users can simply scan a QR code to complete hands-free transactions with their eyewear, without even using a phone or PIN. Additionally, the smartglasses will also support wellness tracking and live translation. This positions the device as a multi-functional computing tool. Overall, Lenskart is betting on localized features and affordability.
Hardware and AI Core: Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 and Gemini 2.5 Live
The "B by Lenskart Smartglasses" are likely to be powered by Qualcomm's powerful and advanced Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chipset. It is a lightweight chipset designed primarily for augmented reality and AI applications that support cameras. Additionally, the smartglasses will feature an integrated Sony camera, which enables hands-free photo and video capture.
At the core of the device is a built-in AI assistant that is powered by Google's Gemini 2.5 Live model. This is described as a multimodal AI system with conversational capabilities. It supports natural language interactions and real-time assistance. The AI core manages some of the important features, including UPI payments, live translation, and wellness insights. The device is designed and engineered in India. Weighing just 40 grams, the glasses are lighter than their smart eyewear counterparts.
