With the growing presence of digital transformation in a constant manner, the enterprises require CIOs to step up effectively. With the evolution of digital transformation, the expenditure is expected to cross $2.1 trillion by the end of 2021. This leads the drifting of digital transformation into business objectives and goals along with the change of interpersonal dynamic of the C-suite, reported by the Financial Times Focus and Apptio.
C-suite encompasses all the key players like CEO, CFO COO, etc to share all the assumptions and beliefs to address and drive changes. The collaboration of C-suite in the Digital transformation and also stress created between IT and Finance in digital transformation, has created disruptions in C-suite functioning.
Sunny Gupta, the Apptio CEO, said in a press release that "Digital is completely transforming the IT operating model, and that means CIOs and CFOs need to work collaboratively". These business leaders need to accelerate new delivery models such as cloud and agile, optimize technology spend to fund innovation, and boost financial agility to make resource decisions that are aligned with the speed of business.
Nearly 60 percent of companies undergoing digital transformation has confirmed that they are embracing flexible, acute strategies based on lessons from customers and employees. Another 47 percent of business leaders said that digital transformation has also blurred the lines of roles and responsibilities within the C-suite.
According to MIT research, business models are changing, and companies must adapt digital strategies to become more agile. CIOs and CFOs are the most unaligned, which creates tension between the two. CIOs are now considered the go-to leaders for inspiring and delivering change in the organization, but CIOs must communicate effectively to get results and influence all stakeholders. IT leaders need to develop those communication skills within their teams and ensure that they are equipped with the right blend of technical, business and influencing skills.
Jeanne W. Ross, the principal research scientist at the MIT Sloan Center for Information Systems Research, said in a session that, “In a constantly changing business landscape, companies that want to successfully digitally transform must pay attention to what is possible, what customers want, and what they are willing to pay for”.
