iPhone 16 Pro Price Drop Ahead of iPhone 17 Launch: Is it Time to Buy? 

iPhone 16 Pro, a flagship that is already priced as a premium product, is being heavily discounted in anticipation of the iPhone 17's unveiling. The used iPhone trade-in values have seen a spike, with Apple offering up to $420 for an iPhone 14 Pro. Carriers such as Verizon and T-Mobile are now also bundling savings of around $1,000 with trade-ins or a plan signup. Experts do caution that trade-in values for older phones will fall post iPhone 17 launch. 

If you're looking for refurbished phones, Amazon's Renewed Premium program keeps promises of 90% battery health and no scratches on displays, and should be provided as a reasonable budget option.

iPhone 17 Rumor vs. Current Discounts

Rumors suggest the iPhone 17 Pro may possess a 48MP telephoto lens, thinner bezels, and a higher price tag, up $50 more than the previous iPhone 16 Pro. However, with the current iPhone 16 Pro also featuring the A18 Pro chip, Action Button, and Apple Intelligence, the performance difference may only be marginal. 

Analysts suggest that unless you require the rumored ‘metalens’ Face ID and/or rumored anti-reflective display feature of the iPhone 17, you would be better off with the current discounts.

The Buyer's Decision: Buy Now or Wait?

For those in a hurry to upgrade, the iPhone 16 Pro's 20% faster GPU and upgraded camera system make it a compelling buy, particularly at clearance prices. However, being patient could also prove worthwhile. Since Apple is expected to release the iPhone 17 in September, it could lead to lower pricing on the 16 Pro in the form of discounts, or you may also be able to lock in a better trade-in deal. 

Either way, the iPhone 17 series is getting a price increase by way of tariffs at some stage, so you could still find a bargain by being smarter about your shopping.
