Bluewave-ai

India’s largest integrated power supply utility, Tata Power has announced that it has signed a three-year commercial agreement with BlueWave-ai which is the world’s first renewable energy AI firm. The agreement comes after the successful trial project during which Tata Power has weighed the performance of the AI technology company, the BlueWave-ai cloud platform to generate intra-day and day-ahead dispatches for use in its power scheduling functions.

Recently, India has put forward the measures in place to mandate accurate energy scheduling and also to introduce a real-time market to increase the onboarding of renewable energy in the national grid. But with this, the electricity distribution companies now face penalties for deviation from planned energy usage that increases with inaccurate power scheduling.

Being an innovator in its industry, Tata Power has come up to use the potential of Artificial Intelligence or AI to optimize power scheduling and thus address the new regulatory changes. And for this very reason, the Tata Power has deployed some of the AI solutions like The Central Control room for Renewable Assets (CCCRA) that utilizes Machine Learning that is based on forecasting, loss estimation, and notify the operators.

For optimizing the coal supply and order inventory management, Tata Power Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL) and Maithon Power Plant (MPL) units also use to plant Coal Supply Management (Coal SCM) and also the Management Strategic Review (MSR) solutions. The company’s Mumbai Distribution team has also implemented a sentiment analysis tool for email classification and routing that can help in the proactive assessment of customer needs.

The BlueWave-ai has provided the forecast and along with the PSCC team also developed and deployed change overload prediction and RTM optimization that uses a neural network and linear programming. This helps in ensuring optimized power purchase costs at optimum levels. Tata Power has demonstrated leadership and BlueWave-ai was awarded an India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) in the Utility Distribution category on the top-level ‘Diamond Trophy’. The award was issued recognizing the advantages of the BlueWave-ai methods for forecasting the energy consumption at Tata Power.

The BlueWave-ai software-as-a-solution (SaaS) has been live in operation 24/7 since February 2020. It also adapted and grew rapidly to the COVID-19 related shutdowns in Mumbai. The collaboration with Tata Power is signed for three years with an option to extend to five too.

The T&D, Tata Power, President, Sanjay Banga said that the company was working with BlueWave-ai to operationalize AI in day-to-day power distribution in Mumbai. He further says that working with AI-powered systems can improve using cloud computing in real-time operations and can help in increasing the company’s baseline systems that result in higher operational efficiency and accuracy. The CEO of BlueWave-ai, Devashish Paul says that his team has come up with innovative early adopters of complicated AI technologies to onboard their products. ‘“We aimed to work with leading global companies such as Tata Power to build the world’s premier AI cleantech company. In Canada, our solutions delivered the first real-time AI electric utility dispatch and stand-alone industrial applications”.
