Vodafone Idea share price moved up sharply on Friday after the government gave big relief on telecom dues. The stock rose nearly 9% in early trading after the Department of Telecommunications shared a clear plan for paying AGR dues.

Vodafone Idea shares touched a high of Rs. 12.51 during the day. The stock closed the previous session at Rs. 11.50. Investors reacted positively after the company informed stock exchanges about a fresh message from the DoT. The update reduced worries around long-pending AGR payments.

Big AGR Relief Brings Hope for Vodafone Idea

The DoT decided to freeze Vodafone Idea’s adjusted gross revenue dues for six years. This freeze covers the main amount, interest, and penalties. By the end of December, the total AGR dues stood at Rs. 87,695 crore. The freeze means the amount will not grow further during this period.

This step gives strong relief to the company. AGR dues have remained a major problem for Vodafone Idea for many years. The new decision gives the company time to plan its finances in a better way.

The AGR repayment timeline spreads payments over many years. Vodafone Idea will pay Rs. 744 crore in total from March 2026 to March 2031. The company will pay a maximum of Rs. 124 crore each year during this phase. This keeps yearly payments low and manageable.

After that, Vodafone Idea will pay Rs. 100 crore every year from March 2032 to March 2035. The remaining AGR amount will be paid in equal yearly parts from March 2036 to March 2041. The DoT will also form a committee to review the AGR dues. The committee's decision will be final.

Stock Rally Backed by Better Business Signs

This DoT relief helped start the Vi stock rally. Market experts said the long payment timeline improved confidence. The decision also shows government support to keep competition alive in the telecom sector.

Vodafone Idea's share price strength also comes from better business signs. Over the last six months, the stock has risen around 64%. Hope around the AGR resolution played a key role in this rise.

The company’s financial numbers also show early improvement. Losses have reduced due to steady operations. Average revenue per user increased to about Rs. 180 from nearly Rs. 166 in the last quarter. This shows better earnings from customers.

Still, the AGR freeze gives Vodafone Idea some breathing space. The clear repayment plan allows the company to focus on daily business, network upgrades, and customer growth.
