India’s emphatic 61-run victory over Pakistan at the T20 World Cup 2026 on 15 February should have been a moment of pure celebration. Instead, the match at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium ended with concerns. Viral footage captured captain Suryakumar Yadav and all-rounder Hardik Pandya in a heated exchange with spinner Kuldeep Yadav immediately after the final wicket.

Despite moving closer to a Super 8 spot, the visible friction between senior leaders and the wrist-spinner has sparked intense debate about the internal atmosphere of the Indian dressing room.

A Clash of Standards in Colombo

The issues started in the 18th over of the game. Hardik Pandya was bowling under immense pressure when Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi hit the ball high toward the boundary. Unfortunately, Kuldeep Yadav dropped the ball and it went for six runs. Though India was already winning the game, the team leaders were quite upset about the mistake. Hardik yelled at Kuldeep during the team huddle.

The argument got worse as players walked off the field. Suryakumar Yadav usually stays calm but this time, he was ‘visibly fuming’ and seemed to push the spinner away. Teammates Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh looked concerned.

How Will This Internal Friction Affect India's Super 8 Campaign?

Fans are concerned if this fight is just a small argument or a bigger problem within the team. Currently, under coach Gautam Gambhir, the team has very strict rules. Players are not allowed to make many mistakes as India moves on to play against strong teams like Australia and South Africa in the Super 8s.

The problem is bigger than just one dropped catch as team India is already facing a ‘quiet turmoil behind the scenes’ regarding the future. If the disharmony among players continues, the team might lose its confidence. The next six months will show if this was just ‘tough love’ or a real split. This event might even change who the BCCI chooses as captain for the 2027 World Cup.

Team India needs to move past the drama in Colombo quickly as they are set to play their next match against the Netherlands on 18 February. Winning games is important, but staying together as a team is also a top priority. The team management will likely have a private meeting to fix this issue.
