Harmanpreet Kaur Leads India in ICC Women’s World Cup 2025: Squad & Schedule Inside
The Indian women's team is set to begin the World Cup campaign from September 30, 2025. Harmanpreet Kaur-led 'Women in Blue' will fancy their chances of winning the maiden ODI World Cup, courtesy of the fact that they get to play the tournament on home soil. The World Cup will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Featuring eight teams, the tournament will be conducted across five venues in India and Sri Lanka, with 28 league matches followed by knockout games. Apart from India, other seven participating nations are Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Following the round-robin format, each team will face the others once. The top four teams will qualify for the semifinals.

India’s Performance in Recent Series vs Australia
India hosted Australia in a 3-match ODI series recently, to prepare for the upcoming World Cup. The series ended 2-1 as the visitors continued their domination over the women in blue. Despite the loss, India will be happy with the performance of batters and bowlers throughout the series, especially when veterans like Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, and skipper Kaur are in good form.
India’s Last Two World Cup Campaigns
The upcoming World Cup marks India’s 11th participation in the tournament. In the last two World Cup campaigns, India finished 2nd and 5th in 2017 and 2022, respectively. Previously, in 2005, India reached the finals for the first time and lost the match against Australia.
Women’s World Cup Prize Money
The upcoming 2025 edition promises a whopping $13.88 million total prize pool, the biggest ever in women’s cricket. The champions will receive $4.48 million, while the runners-up will be awarded $2.24 million. Two losing semi-finalists will take home $1.12 million each.
