Australia’s Cameron Green Became the Most Expensive Overseas Player in IPL History
The IPL (Indian Premier League) Auction 2026 has concluded with all franchises finalising their squads after intense bidding, blockbuster signings, and surprise selections ahead of the new season. Cameron Green emerged as the most expensive overseas player in IPL history, with the Kolkata Knight Riders acquiring the Australian all-rounder for Rs. 25.20 crore at the mini auction in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday (December 16, 2025).
Surprise Picks in IPL 2026 Mini Auction
The evening belonged to uncapped Indian players at the Etihad Arena. Chennai Super Kings, who went into the auction with the purse of Rs. 43.40 crore, made Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma the joint-most expensive uncapped players in the IPL.
Prashant became the most expensive uncapped player in IPL after CSK bought him for Rs. 14.2 crore. Kartik Sharma also joined him in the CSK squad at the same price.
Avesh Khan, who Lucknow Super Giants bagged for Rs. 10 crore for IPL 2023, was the previous most expensive uncapped player in the IPL.

Final Thoughts
All 10 IPL teams dipped into a combined purse of Rs. 237.55 crore, with the minimum base price of a player at the IPL 2026 auction being Rs. 30 lakh, while the maximum base price stood at Rs. 2 crore.
For the IPL 2026 season, each franchise was allotted a total budget of Rs. 125 crore to build a squad of a minimum of 18 players and a maximum of 25, with up to eight overseas players.
Despite being sold for a record amount, Green’s contract will be capped at Rs. 18 crore, as per new IPL auction rules. The amount above the cap will be diverted to the BCCI’s welfare fund.
