Spider-Man 4 update: Tom Holland and Zendaya review the script, show excitement and cite room for improvement
Tom Holland aka Spider-Man has given his fans exciting news about the new Spiderman movie. Recently, the actor appeared on the Rich Roll Podcast where he revealed that along with his co-star, Zendaya, he has read a draft of the script of Spider-Man 4. As per Holland, he is excited about the upcoming film, though the script “needs work.”
Holland has portrayed Peter Parker/Spider-Man in three solo films with Zendaya's MJ in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Far From Home (2019), and No Way Home (2021). He also appeared in some of Marvel's biggest blockbusters, including Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Though a new Spider-Man movie is in the works, Holland acknowledged the challenges that come with being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He explained, “One of the things to bear in mind with Marvel is that your film is a small cog in a large machine. And that machine has got to keep running. And you need to make sure you can fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture.”
Last month, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton is in talks to direct the fourth instalment. Cretton would be taking over from Jon Watts, who directed the previous three Spider-Man movies. Holland shared that they already have “a creative and a pitch and a draft, which is excellent.”
Holland expressed confidence in the team working on the fourth instalment. Tom spoke about his enthusiasm and acknowledged that the writers are constantly at work to bring a top-notch script to the audience. “It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job,” Holland said. “I read it three weeks ago, and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together, and at times were bouncing around the living room like, 'This is a real movie worthy of the fans' respect.”
Although there is still a little work to be done, Holland is all about the excitement. He told Collider that he is “very protective over Spider-Man and would only do it if it's worth the while of the character.”
For now, fans will have to wait and see how Spider-Man 4 develops.
