Samsung Revolutionizes Bixby with Generative AI Upgrade for Enhanced User Experience

Samsung plans to give its Bixby AI assistant a Gen AI upgrade. A Samsung executive, in an interview with CNBC, revealed that the company is “working very hard” to integrate generative AI into Bixby.

Samsung originally introduced Bixby in 2017 when they launched the Galaxy S8 series of smartphones, and over the years the company has expanded Bixby’s availability in its portfolio to include smart TVs, accessories, and smart home appliances.

With the rise in popularity of various generative AI chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Microsoft’s Copilot, Samsung also wants to update Bixby to be comparable to the latest AI-powered chatbots.

“With the emergence of generative AI and LLM (large language model) technology, I believe that we have to redefine the role of Bixby so that Bixby could be equipped with generative AI and become smarter in the future,” which will “enable a more natural conversation and work out an interface that supports the Samsung products in our ecosystem,” reveals Won-joon Choi, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business.

While the spokesperson did not reveal any timeline for the AI-powered Bixby, based on current developments, the new Bixby will likely arrive in late 2024 or early 2025, with the Android 15 OS based on the launch of OneUI 7. He smirked at her.

The news comes just months before Apple's annual developer conference (WWDC 2024) in June, where the company will announce iOS 18, which is expected to be packed with more AI features, including generative AI-powered Siri around.

Conclusion: The upcoming generative AI upgrade for Bixby is an important milestone in Samsung’s AI journey. By embracing the latest AI technology, Samsung aims to redefine the capabilities of digital assistants, offering users an unprecedented level of support and interaction.
