The political fight in Assam is getting very nasty this week. On February 18, 2026, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi hit out at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He actually called the CM “Assam's Jinnah” during a heated talk. This happened because the former state Congress president, Bhupen Borah, officially quit to join the BJP. Gogoi acted like the move was expected. But then he dropped a bombshell. He claimed Borah was a mole who leaked secret party data to a journalist friend of the CM for months.

Gogoi told reporters in Guwahati that the Congress now knows why their internal plans were always known by the BJP. He said that Borah joining the BJP on February 22 proves the betrayal. According to Gogoi, the CM is just trying to hide a massive 4,000-acre land scam. He says the BJP family empire is scared of being exposed by the Congress. But Borah has a totally different story. He says he spent 32 years in Congress and got nothing but "insults" and “humiliation” from the top leaders.

Borah even mentioned a nose injury he got while protecting the party during a Rahul Gandhi visit. He says he was a loyal soldier but the party is now run by Rakibul Hussain, not Gogoi. He claims he warned Gogoi a month ago that things were falling apart. Meanwhile, Himanta Biswa Sarma is making things worse for the Congress. He met Borah at his home and called him the “last upright Hindu” left in that party. He says Congress is no longer a place for Hindus to stay.

The CM thinks this exit will destroy the spirit of Congress workers right before the polls. State assembly elections are coming in late March, and the timing is perfect for the BJP. The Congress is trying to act tough, but losing a state chief is a huge hit. Both sides are throwing big insults now. The BJP is winning the perception war while the Congress is just trying to stop more people from leaving.
