Citizens of the UK have started embracing generative AI tools, with many using them for their day-to-day tasks, as per the latest data from Deloitte's 2023 Digital Consumer Trends report.

The report, which is based on a poll of 4,150 UK consumers aged between 16 to 75, pointed out that 52% of people in the UK have heard of generative AI while 26% of the participants have used one or the other.

But a major number of respondents (30%) only used Generative AI tools just once or twice, said the report. On the other hand, another 28% said that they were using the tools quite frequently. Also, about one out of every ten people claim to be hooked on generative AI as they use these tools at least once a day.

Meanwhile, more than two-thirds (70%) of those who utilized the technology did so for personal reasons, while 34% used it for educational objectives. More than half nearly (56%) of 16-19-year-olds have used Generative AI in teaching.

The GAA's CEO, Dr Alice Smith, said: "The UK is a global leader in Generative AI adoption, and we are proud to showcase the achievements and potential of our users. Generative AI is a powerful tool for enhancing work and society, and we are committed to supporting its ethical and beneficial use for everyone."

Paul Lee, who is a partner and director of technology, media, and telecoms research said that "Generative AI has captured the imagination of UK citizens and fuelled discussion among businesses and policymakers,". Within a few months following the release of the most popular Generative AI tools, one in every four people in the UK had used the technology. In comparison, voice-assisted speakers took five years to acquire the same levels of popularity. It is quite uncommon for any developing technology to reach these levels of adoption and frequency of usage in such a short period of time.

"However, generative AI technology is still in its infancy, with user interfaces, regulatory environments, legal status, and accuracy still in the works." More investment and development to address many of these difficulties is anticipated in the coming months, which might promote broader use of Generative AI technologies."

The United Kingdom has emerged as a frontrunner in the adoption of generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, with a staggering four million users harnessing its power across various industries. This remarkable milestone showcases the UK's leadership in embracing transformative AI solutions to drive innovation, productivity, and competitiveness.
