OPPO will replace smartphones with over 100 AI features by 2024

On June 5, OPPO announced that it would introduce more than 100 generative artificial intelligence (gen-AI) features across its smartphone line at various price segments by the end of 2024 with MediaTek, Image.

They aim to bring AI capabilities to their smartphones in places like functionality, natural language processing, and smart charging. Additionally, the company said it has filed 5,399 AI-related patents globally.

OPPO aims to make AI phones available to everyone, said Billy Zhang, President of Overseas Market, Sales Service, OPPO. “For the first time in the industry, OPPO delivers generative AI to all things characters. By the end of this year, we expect to bring AI enablement to around 50 million users.”

Oppo said its flagship smartphone series will feature the Google Gemini family of large language models (LLMs), enabling AI features such as AI Toolbox – including AI; AI Writer offers content suggestions, such as sentence completions, word choices, and grammar corrections.

Sharing details about the AI ​​brief, Oppo said that the tool will automatically summarize meetings, notes, podcasts, etc., allowing users to understand the essence of a document without much reading. This tool will also display important information such as dates, names, and specific words to ensure that important information is not overlooked.

Oppo said it will deliver a high-performance, accurate, and natural voice-to-text conversion experience powered by Microsoft Fast Transcription and Neural TTS technologies. With its new fast transcription feature, Microsoft's Azure Artificial Intelligence Speech Service created a streamlined user experience for audio recording transcription.

Additionally, Oppo said its collaboration with Microsoft will help expand connectivity to Windows PCs. Smartphone users will be able to use Microsoft CoPilot to do things on their smartphones, translate text messages, and run search codes using a connected PC.

Detailing its collaboration with MediaTek, Oppo said it is working with the Taiwanese semiconductor company to optimize AI features for its hardware and software stack. Furthermore, Oppo said its collaboration with MediaTek extends to developing custom AI frameworks according to its needs. This allows manufacturers to leverage the expertise of chip manufacturers and create unique AI features for their devices.
