Rohit Shetty reveals why Deepika-Ranveer chemistry took a backseat in Singham Again
Rohit Shetty recently explained why Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh did not have a romantic subplot in Singham Again. The two actors have previously showcased highly praised chemistry in films like Bajirao Mastani and Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, making this decision noteworthy.
In a chat with India Today, Shetty explained why it was a conscious decision to NOT make the two go filmy. He shared his approach, saying, "When you are dealing with Ramayan, you are dealing with everybody's emotions; that includes my emotions as well. We introduced him when the chapter of Hanuman was being told. It was easy for us to cater to the Deepika and Ranveer chemistry.
But it was a conscious decision, as you can see there are even no songs in the film. You don't want to hurt anyone emotionally." It was sensitive enough," said Shetty on the opportunity of working with a tale inspired by the epic Ramayana: given the emotional resonance of audiences with the film. "We wanted not to hurt that sentiment," he said. His team ensured they didn't hurt that sentiment while doing the film. "We always knew what Ranveer could not do, or Bebo [Kareena Kapoor], or other characters, because as I said, we did not want to hurt anyone.". We also panicked with the release of the movie. Only by Friday evening, which is the day of release, were we finally glad and relieved.
Singh Again, which was released with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, became Shetty's highest-grossing film on its opening day. The film boasts a fabulous star cast including Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Jackie Shroff, Tiger Shroff, Akshay Kumar, and Arjun Kapoor. With such strength at the box office, the movie will easily touch over Rs 250 crore in the next two days.
By choosing not to have a romantic subplot, Shetty was able to maintain respect for the film's thematic material yet cater to the sentiments of this sensitive audience, thereby making Singham Again one of the most significant box office hits.
