Nitin Gadkari Calls for Improved Customer Service in Auto Industry

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari urged more attention to customer service, after-sales support, and quality assurance from the Indian automobile industry.

Addressing the Auto Retail Conclave organized by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) through a video message, Mr. Gadkari said automobile dealers were playing an important role in the mission of an 'Aatma Nirbhar Bharat'.

He said the industry now stands at the threshold of a great revolution and that innovation in these crucial areas will hold the key to its success.

Gadkari's comments came at a time when the Indian auto industry stared at fundamental and far-reaching changes. He underlined the fact that the industry will have to conform not only to new technologies but also to ensuring that customer service and other after-sales processes should be equally improved, matching advances in technology.

The call to action here befits the larger government aspiration of sustainability and innovation in mobility, with an intent toward making India one of the front-running countries in green mobility solutions.

While addressing the situation in the auto industry, Gadkari has claimed, "Automotive dealers are crucial to realizing the dream of 'Make in India' and having a self-reliant nation. The contribution of the auto retail sector to the Indian economy is huge, which is approximately Rs 40,000 crore to the GDP every year, and about Rs 95,000 crore in taxes and levies every year for central and state governments.

It trickles down to other associated industries, such as finance and insurance, and thus reflects the broader ramifications of the auto sector in the economy.

Gadkari has also acknowledged the contribution of FADA and its members towards the growth in this sector while reiterating the commitment of the government to extend all possible support to the auto retail sector.

He appreciated the efforts made by FADA towards environmental friendliness in dealerships and aligning with the scrappage policy, thus supporting the government's vision for a sustainable future.

In other words, Gadkari has reminded the auto industry that the mere adoption of technology alone will not be able to change the face of this sector without enhancement in customer service and quality assurance practices. The more the industry progresses further, the success in maintaining the growth would rest on the achievement of high standards of service to reach the ultimate goals of innovation and environmental responsibility.
