NFTNFT conversations will allow women to contribute more towards the discussion without inhibitions.

Another women’s day is here and people are going gaga over wishing them their best words. With all due respect to feminists out there, there is one question that needs an immediate answer. Are all spaces as equal for women as they are for men? The answer would be a definite ‘No’. Art as a form of self-expression is nothing less than an emotional vent. When we agree upon the cliché of woman’s emotionality, why not encourage them to express their emotions through art and discuss it on a platform like Twitter, which, most of the time is used for mindless chatter and trolling? Ever since Non-Fungible Tokens have caught the fancy of art enthusiasts, there has been a number of tweets around the digital art tokens. NFT conversations on Twitter have gained enormous traction that there were 375 million tweets sent out on NFTs alone. And out of these millions of tweets, women’s contribution was only 15%. In this context, it comes as a pleasant surprise that Twitter is open to bringing in more women into the fold of NFT conversations. Recently it launched the #ownit emoji which symbolizes individual and collective action.

Where do Women NFTs stand?

Thousands of NFT projects are launched every day on Twitter some making headlines and few waning like they were never present. Women’s NFT projects belong to the second category. Of late, few women projects such as WOW (World of Women) are doing quite well with the signs following of around 102K and it is a positive sign given the fact that 40% of women have never even heard of NFTs.

NFTs being a part of the crypto environment, it is mistaken as a means to make money, which is traditionally a male domain. Bring in digital tokens, a more macho vibe is added to it. Confidence is what makes all the difference and women, in general, have lesser confidence to try new concepts. NFT conversations will allow women to contribute more towards the discussion without inhibitions as it provides a sandbox environment, where they can learn through experimentation. NFT conversations definitely have lots of scopes to generate awareness on issues of importance. They have immense potential in generating consensus around problems involving the women’s community. For example, @WomenriseNFT recently aired an interview with Malala Yousuzai, raising awareness around women’s education. Only an ardent Twitter user understands what these conversations have to garner following to the concerned accounts. It is like a double-edged-sword which women are having trouble swiping.
