Donald Trump’s Response to the SCO Summit

The recent interactions between Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, and the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the SCO summit in China’s Tianjin have rendered people across the world speechless.

Responding to the surprising bond between the leaders of these countries, Trump said, “Looks like we’ve lost India and Russia to the deepest, darkest, China.” He further added, “May they have a long and prosperous future together!”

The supposed alliance of China, Russia, and India, despite the imposition of Trump tariffs, sends a strong message of defiance and points towards a new global order.

Two days before this statement, the US President called the relationship between India and the US a “one-sided disaster,” pointing out the unfair trade happening between the countries. Trump has also accused India of importing Russian oil at a discounted price and thereby funding the war in Ukraine, claiming the imposition of 50% tariffs on India, a punishment.

The US is being criticized by its own people for breaking a good relationship with India. Some former officials have reportedly said that Trump’s sanctions on New Delhi forced India to lean towards China.

Here’s what John Bolton, the former US National Security Advisor, said: “Once-strong personal rapport” between PM Modi and Donald Trump can no longer be seen. He also condemned the US president for “pushing back” the bilateral ties with the largest democracy by decades.

The visible bond between the leaders of China, Russia, and India has left the Oval Office shocked. Furthermore, Donald Trump’s tweet on X wishing this trio prosperity has given way to many difficult questions about the future of global politics.
