TMC MLA Jiban Krishna Saha Attempts to Flee as ED Raids, Gets Arrested Over School Recruitment Scam

On 25 August 2025, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided Jiban Krishna Saha’s house, a TMC MLA, on grounds of heading the School Service Commission (SSC) scam. During the ED raid, Saha attempted to run away by climbing the wall but was captured on the spot. The MLA belongs to the Burwan Constituency.

Saha’s wife was also interrogated in the past by the central agency regarding the school recruitment scam, but could not find much information. Later, the inputs of a monetary transaction made by a person in the Birbhum district led to the ED raid.

Why Was the TMC MLA Arrested?

Jiban Krishna Saha (TMC MLA) was also arrested in April 2023 for being involved in the SSC scam but was released on bail in May 2025. On 14 April 2025, CBI officials searched six different places in Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Kolkata. The ED raided his house in Burwan, Murshidabad.

Saha was accused of collecting money from the candidates and promising them jobs as teachers in the educational department. This scam happened in the recruitment process for the first West Bengal State Level Selection Test for classes 9th and 10th in the year 2016.

As the investigations deepened, all the recruitment documents of selected candidates and the amount of money they paid were found. Along with Saha, CBI officials have also arrested Partha Chatterjee and Manik Bhattacharya, who are also TMC MLAs.

Supreme Court Puts Aside Entire Panel of Staff Recruited Illegally

The Supreme Court also announced a significant decision on 3 April 2025. It ordered the suspension of a whole panel of non-teaching and teaching staff who were recruited illegally by WBSSC in 2016. It is reported that over 25,000 non-teaching staff, teachers, and members lost their jobs.

MLA Jiban Krishna was finally arrested for the school teacher recruitment scam along with two of his partners from the same party: Partha Chatterjee and Manik Bhattacharya. The CBI has also found the list of recruitment documents for both teaching and non-teaching staff, along with the sum they paid to secure their positions. The Supreme Court also terminated these staff members who were recruited by WBSSC in 2016.
