Cybercrime Complaint Filed Against Wasim Akram for Promoting a Gambling App

A cybercrime complaint was lodged against the former captain of the Pakistan cricket team, Wasim Akram. The former cricketer has landed in hot water over the allegations of endorsing an online betting app called Baji.

The complaint was raised by Muhammad Fiaz and submitted to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). He accused Akram of promoting a foreign betting app, Baji, and claimed that the ex-captain was the app’s brand ambassador.

Why Was a Case Filed Against Wasim Akram?

Muhammad Fiaz informed that a poster circulating on social media has led to many viewers turning to an illegal betting app due to Akram’s promotion. He said, “A poster circulating on social media and a video clip show Wasim Akram endorsing the online platform, which has sparked interest among general users in the app.”

The complainant, who lodged a case under the Electronics Crime Act of 2016, asked NCCIA to carry out legal proceedings against the former captain of the Pakistan cricket team. In response to the cybercrime complaint, NCCIA investigators said, “We will take action against him if the allegations are found to be true.”

On the other hand, Saad-ur-Rehman, a TikToker and YouTuber, was arrested on Saturday for promoting the same betting app. He is popularly known on social media as Ducky Bhai.

What Was Wasim Akram’s Reply to Cyber Crime Allegations?

Wasim Akram has not yet shared any public statement regarding the cybercrime complaint, while speculators eagerly await his response. However, he has shared his views on Mohammed Siraj’s brilliant performance in test cricket.

In an interview with Telecom Asia Sport, he said, “I rarely watch cricket when I'm not working, but I was glued to the last day. Siraj was full of hunger and passion - it was an incredible effort. To bowl nearly 186 overs across five Tests and still be fiery on the final day shows remarkable stamina and mental strength. He's not just a support bowler anymore. He's leading the attack and doing it with heart. Even when a catch went down - that of Brook - he didn't lose focus. That's the mark of a fighter. Test cricket is alive and kicking.”

To sum up, NCCIA investigators of Pakistan have clearly stated that strict action will be taken against Wasim Akram if the allegations turn out to be true. The same betting app that Akram endorsed was caught being promoted by Ducky Bhai, aka Saad-ur-Rehman, who is now behind bars.
