Paris AI Summit: Modi and Macron Strengthen India-France Relations on Innovation and Ethics

PM Narendra Modi is visiting France and the United States with goals of AI and finally strengthening the strategic partnership. The two-nation trip focuses more on furthering the collaborations between the nations in terms of technology, trade, defense, and energy.

AI Action Summit in France

The summit, co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and Modi witnessed world leaders and tech giants, including the CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman and Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google. The deliberations focused on keeping AI innovative, secure, and beneficial to all. A roadmap for India and France to cooperate on AI was also presented. The aspects that were mainly covered included the ethical development of AI and research across borders.

Modi and Macron will hold talks in Marseille after the summit. They will review the 2047 Horizon Roadmap, a long-term strategy for an India-France partnership. They will also open the country's first consulate in the city, thus enhancing diplomatic and trade relations.

The visit also includes a stopover at the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, ITER, where India is a part of a global effort to realize clean and commercially viable fusion energy.

Strengthening India-US Relations

From France, Modi flew to Washington to meet President Donald Trump after his re-election. The topics included defense cooperation, trade relations, energy security, and supply chain resilience. He assured India was committed to investing more in the US technology and manufacturing sectors.

Agenda items included the problem of Indian migrants deported from the US. Recent pictures of shackled deportees triggered a public outcry, which obliges India to raise questions about their treatment. Ways to address immigration matters with fairness and dignity were discussed between the two sides.

Collaborations in the Future

The visit marks India's increased influence in AI development around the world and its increasing relations with other major global players. With its focus on AI, defense, and trade, it clearly spells out efforts for more global cooperation in the newer emerging technologies and strategic sectors.
