Bollywood Actor Sonu Sood Caught in Court Battle Over Rikeza Coin Scam Investment Fraud Case
A court in Ludhiana has issued an arrest warrant against Bollywood superstar Sonu Sood for not appearing as a witness in a case of fraud, amounting to Rs 10 lakh. The court has ordered the Oshiwara Police in Mumbai to arrest the actor and present him before the court on February 10, 2025.
Details of the Fraud Case
The complaint was filed by Rajesh Khanna, an advocate in Ludhiana, against Mohit Shukla for fraudulently cheating him into investing in a fake Rijika coin. Shukla allegedly duped Khanna into investing in the fraudulent cryptocurrency with the promise of large returns, which turned out to be a scam and led to the filing of the present case.
The court had called Sonu Sood several times to testify against his alleged involvement or knowledge in the fraudulent scheme. However, despite repeated notices, the actor did not appear before the court, and therefore, Judicial Magistrate Ramanpreet Kaur issued the warrant.
Court's Order and Police Action
The court order directs the police to arrest and produce Sonu Sood before the judge. It also requires a report on the execution of the warrant, stating whether and how the arrest was done. The next date for the case is set for February 10, 2025. If the actor fails to appear again, more severe legal action may be taken.
Effect on Sonu Sood's Reputation
This legal trouble comes as a setback for Sonu Sood, who is widely recognized for his philanthropic work. During the pandemic, he gained national attention for helping stranded migrants and those in need. His efforts were praised across India, and he was seen as a real-life hero.
He is facing strict actions from the Punjab court for violating legal summons, though he had a good image in the public. According to legal experts, this may increase the legal hassle for the actor and may attract penalties or a non-bailable warrant if the actor continues ignoring judicial orders.
Reactions and Industry Response
The news has brought up debates in the film fraternity and law circles. All eyes are now on the reaction that the actor will give when the warrant is issued against him so that he will be taken into cognizance of the legal punishment. Some speculators are claiming that Sonu Sood was not a party to the fraud but is being dragged in due to his association with those accused.
Legal analysts believe that court orders must not be ignored, regardless of public standing. Whether Sonu Sood will pay heed to the judge's directive in the coming days or take more steps to allow him to appear before the judge is something only time will tell.
