Virat Kohli’s Quest for 10th T20 Century: Will IPL 2025 Witness History in the Making?
Virat Kohli is on the verge of making history in IPL 2025. Having already scored nine T20 centuries, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star needs only one more to become the first Indian batsman to have 10 T20 centuries.
Kohli’s Record-Breaking Run
Kohli has been a dominant force in T20 cricket for over a decade. His first century in the format came during IPL 2016, and he has since amassed eight more across various T20 matches. One of those centuries was recorded in international cricket against Afghanistan. If he achieves another hundred in IPL 2025, he will cement his status as the first Indian batsman to reach double digits in T20 centuries.
Among the greatest T20 batsmen in the world, Chris Gayle leads with 22 centuries, followed by Babar Azam with 11.
Kohli currently shares third place with nine, alongside some of the most prolific run-scorers in the format. Another century will put him one step closer to the elite club and further solidify his legacy.
IPL 2025: A Crucial Season for Kohli
While Kohli will play again for RCB in IPL 2025 at the fray of the contract for an astronomical sum of Rs 21 crore, his presence will be of much worth to a franchise gunning for its inaugural title in IPL history. The season opener against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is scheduled for March 23.
However, it will create a history-making cauldron for Kohli, with Indian hearts set in anticipation to see if he is going to meet that challenge early on in the tournament itself.
Recently, Virat Kohli proved to be one of the architects of India's success in the tournament by delivering stunning match-winning performances, including a century against Pakistan. Though a little out of sorts in the finale, his overall contribution in the tournament reinstated his form and intent.
A Season of Record in the Painting
Apart from that, Kohli is also nearing other big milestones, apart from this 10th century: he is at 13,000 T20 runs and would for sure go by David Warner on the list of most 50-plus scores all-time at IPL. Hit those numbers, and IPL 2025 could very well be one defining season for the Indian batting maestro.
RCB’s campaign will continue with their first home match against Gujarat Titans on April 2. As the tournament unfolds, the cricketing world will closely follow Kohli’s journey toward making history.
