Infosys Under Fire for Abrupt Layoffs! Fired Trainees Allege Harsh & Secretive Dismissals

Infosys has laid off 400 trainees after they failed internal evaluation tests, sparking concerns over job security and fairness in the IT industry. Dismissed employees claim the process was abrupt and secretive, with some alleging they were escorted out quietly to avoid attention. Many struggled to find transport home after being asked to leave the Mysuru campus by 6 PM.

Reports suggest that trainers had warned trainees about the difficulty of the tests, fueling speculation that the layoffs were pre-planned. While Infosys has yet to comment on the controversy, concerns are rising over transparency and ethical treatment of employees in the tech sector.

Trainees Claims the Dismissals Were Abrupt and Insensitive

According to reports, batches of 50 trainees were summoned to have discussions on February 7 morning with laptops in hand. One of the trainees describes the process as highly secretive; stating that Infosys shielded the place of termination so as not to let other employees or clients know about it.

“We were escorted out in a way so as to not catch their attention,” a dismissed trainee told Moneycontrol anonymously.

Another trainee from Madhya Pradesh alleged she asked to be allowed to stay at the Mysuru campu and move out the following day but was turned down as well. Amongst hundreds of others, it was difficult for her to get transport back home.

“This is cruelty. It is a big company, and trainees fear speaking the truth,” another trainee alleged.

Trainees Warned About Exam Difficulty

The terminated trainees further alleged that trainers warned them in advance that the evaluation tests were intentionally set up to weed out a large number of them from the company. Now those still waiting for tests fear they may suffer a similar fate.

The new evaluation process now requires minimum pass marks of 50% for each focus area and an aggregate score of 65% in the technology stream for the trainee. This change was introduced in 2024 so as to adapt to the changing IT industry expectations.

Infosys Not Responding to Allegations

While there are concerns about the layoffs growing sharper, Infosys chose to remain officially mute with respect to commenting further on the accusations. Reports suggest that Infosys officials have been approached for their repsonse, and updates are awaited after that.

Meanwhile, concerns keep escalating over the treatment of interns and fairness and transparency of the company's evaluation system. The dread of mass layoffs looms ahead for other interns, spurring discussions around corporate ethics and nascent notions of job security within the IT sector.
