IndiGo Luggage Theft Allegation Sparks Questions Over Airport Security and Handling
A serious IndiGo luggage theft allegation surfaced after Mumbai-based passenger Ritika Arora reported that her checked-in suitcases were cut open and belongings worth Rs. 40,000 were stolen on a Mumbai-Delhi flight.

Indigo Responds After Passenger Flags Possible Indigo Theft
IndiGo issued a formal response stating that an internal review found no signs of Indigo theft or irregular handling. The airline said CCTV footage showed no pilferage and reminded passengers that valuables should be carried in cabin baggage.
IndiGo added that it will support any formal complaint filed with authorities. The statement aimed to reinforce the airline’s stance while assuring cooperation in the investigation.
Passenger Questions CCTV Gaps in Indigo Baggage Handling
Arora questioned the airline's explanation, stating that not all baggage-handling zones are covered by surveillance cameras. She said staff operating in non-monitored areas were not checked, which raised doubts about the thoroughness of the investigation.
She urged authorities through her post to ensure stronger accountability towards the passengers and described the theft situation as a breach of trust. The comments section on her LinkedIn post reflected similar concerns from other travelers who faced baggage-related issues.
Separate Incident Highlights Broader Customer Concerns
In another case, Kolkata-based flyer Ritham Bhattacharjee criticized the airline for what he described as unprofessional behavior by the cabin crew during a five-hour delay on a Kolkata–Chennai flight.
Passengers remained inside the aircraft throughout the delay and received only chips and cookies. His post added to a growing list of public complaints against Indigo.
Renewed Focus on Accountability and Passenger Trust
Recent allegations, including the latest Indigo theft claim, indicate rising concerns about transparency and baggage safety. Although Indigo has ruled out any illegality based on its investigation. However, the issues related to do with the lack of surveillance coverage and passenger dissatisfaction point indicate the necessity for stringent regulation.
Similar incidents in recent months that hinted at a pattern that regulators and airlines may need to address the issue properly, improve protocols, better communication, and conduct more open inquiries.
