Young students from Gukesh's school, cut across all walks of life, waved banners and cheered loudly for Gukesh as he walked out holding his glittering trophy. Flowers were showered upon him, and the atmosphere felt electric, much like that of a cricket team’s victory homecoming.

"I cannot express how much this means to me," Gukesh said in the waiting media throng, his voice quivering with emotion. "To bring this trophy home to India is a big deal, and the support I have received is incredible." It was something he wasn't quite expecting even as a youngster like him received an overwhelmingly rapturous reception.

The victory not only made Gukesh the youngest ever to win the World Chess Championship but also renewed interest in chess within India, a country traditionally obsessed with cricket. The victory has inspired numerous young minds to take up the game professionally.

Gukesh's Long Journey to the Top

This victory is just the latest chapter in an impressive career for Gukesh, who became India's youngest Grandmaster at the age of 12 and rapidly reached the world stage. His victory in Singapore was a culmination of years of hard work and dedication. “I’ve always dreamed of becoming the best player in the world, and this is a huge step towards that,” he said.

Chennai, the city of the five-time World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand who also coached Gukesh, was jubilant and proud of the young champion. Gukesh is the second Indian to hold this prestigious title after Anand.
