Initial Investigations Show Similar Language Patterns in All Emails, with Suspected Local Senders Using VPNs and Dark Web Browsers
Tamil Nadu witnessed heightened security after CM MK Stalin, Ajith Kumar, Aravind Swamy, and BJP leader Khushbu received bomb threats. The threats triggered concern across political and film circles, leading to intensified surveillance and statewide alerts.
Tamil Nadu Bomb Threat
Chief Minister MK Stalin and actors Ajith Kumar, Aravind Swamy, and Khushbu received bomb threats. The office of the Director General of Police (DGP) received an email warning of bombs planted at their homes.
Security checks at all four locations were tightened immediately. According to the report, police searched areas like Chennai One IT Park, Mylapore Saibaba Temple, PSBB School, director Thankar Bachan’s home, actress Vadivukarasi’s residence, the residence of Dr Kalai Kathiravan, a location linked to Dr Ayyappan of BSS Hospital, Chitra Lakshman’s home, a Malaysia Airlines flight, and the IIT Madras campus.
No explosives were found anywhere, and officials have not shared any specific information about the source of the threat.
Serial Bomb Threats
Last month, CM Stalin received a bomb threat as well, but investigations confirmed it was baseless. On October 3, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters and actor Trisha’s residence received similar hoax alerts.
Earlier on August 15 also, Stalin received a bomb threat ahead of the flag hoisting ceremony. A similar threat was given to the Tamil Nadu CM in July this year.
Ajith Kumar’s house in Injambakkam, Chennai, had already faced a similar warning just a week ago, allegedly from an unidentified individual.
Actor Arun Vijay also received a similar email claiming a bomb had been planted at his house in Ekkattuthangal. That search, too, proved to be a false alarm.
On October 3, a mysterious email threatening a bomb blast was also received at the Chennai Airport Manager's Office. As per the email, powerful bombs had been hidden inside garbage bins at the airport, and they would explode. It also turned out to be a hoax.
In October, legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja’s T Nagar studio similarly received a hoax bomb alert.
Greater Chennai Police Commissioner A Arun said, "No threat is taken lightly." He added that “either a community service register or a first information report has been filed in each case.”
While no explosives have been found so far, the panic triggered highlights how easily misinformation can disrupt public order in this connected world. The Anti-Terror Squad unit is investigating these incidents.
