CM Bhupendra Patel's Cabinet: Resignations Pave Way for Major Ministry Expansion
On Thursday, all Gujarat government ministers except CM Bhupendra Patel submitted their resignations. This happened a day before the cabinet expansion from 17 ministers to 27 ministers was scheduled.
Rumours suggest that five to six ministers will be retained, while the remaining positions will be filled by new candidates. The Gujarat cabinet originally consisted of eight cabinet-rank ministers and nine ministers of state (MoS).
Gujarat Ministers Resign Except CM Bhupendra Patel
The Gujarat Ministers’ sweeping political move has cleared the path for establishing a new team. Bharatiya Janata Party sources confirmed that the party has accepted the resignations of all 16 ministers. This development is considered one of the most essential plans of the BJP to restructure the state cabinet and prepare for the impending political and organizational challenges.
New Council of Ministers to be Formed Soon
The formation of a new Council of Ministers is scheduled to take place after the cabinet expansion, planned on Friday at 11:30 a.m. The swearing-in ceremony will be held under the administration of Governor Acharya Devvrat in Gandhinagar.
Party insiders have hinted that the new team will consist of young and experienced leaders. These new changes are being implemented to maintain caste and regional balance across all communities, especially before the crucial local body elections. With its 182-member assembly, the state is constitutionally permitted to have up to 27 ministers, which is 15% of the total strength of the House.
To sum up, most cabinet members in Gujarat resigned before the cabinet expansion to balance political and administrative objectives. Additionally, both young leaders and experienced ones will be selected for responsible positions to sustain caste and regional balance. While there are many causes behind the reshuffle, one of the important ones regards the change in state leadership.
