$1 Million Election Lottery Campaign Regarded as Illegal, Musk to Face a Lawsuit for Defrauding Voters
On Wednesday, a federal judge in the United States ordered Elon Musk to face a lawsuit for defrauding voters. The voters have accused the wealthiest man in the world of manipulating them into signing a petition in support of the First and Second Amendments of the US Constitution by offering them an attractive chance to win his $1 million giveaway per day.
Voters' support of the two amendments to the US Constitution aligns with Elon Musk's views on the right to speech and the right to bear arms for the security of the free state. Besides, this offers support to Donald Trump’s candidacy.
What Were the Allegations Made Against Musk?
According to the US District Judge, Robert Pitman, Jacqueline McAferty alleged that Elon Musk and his America PAC (a political action committee) convinced her to provide her personal information as part of the election giveaway. America PAC was created by Musk for the successful run of Donald Trump’s US election in 2024.
McAferty, who is an Arizona resident, further added that Musk and his political action committee persuaded voters in seven battleground states to sign his petition in support of the US Constitution, promising that the recipients would be randomly chosen as in a lottery.
What Personal Information Was Collected in the Election Lottery Campaign?
The Arizonian resident extending her allegations said voters were also asked to provide their names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses.
Musk defended himself by saying that the recipients for the lottery were selected to earn money and become spokespersons for America PAC, belittling the idea that the prize was money. He also dismissed the accusation that petitioners suffered harm by furnishing their personal information.
However, the US District Judge said the voters were to be awarded and money could have been won. Further adding, “It is plausible that plaintiff justifiably relied on those statements to believe that defendants were objectively offering her the chance to enter a random lottery - even if that is not what they subjectively intended to do.”
Voters have been poorly criticizing Musk for running an election lottery campaign and for persuading them to provide their personal information. As a result, Musk will be facing a lawsuit soon after the accusations have been proven.
