Rahul Gandhi Accuses Election Commission of India of “Vote Chori”, as Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar Begins
Rahul Gandhi has made the headlines with allegations of “Vote Chori” against the Election Commission of India (ECI). The ECI rebuked the claims, saying, “improper words” like “vote chori” weaken people's faith in the Indian constitution. Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), further added, “Produce evidence of voter fraud or withdraw your remarks. There is no third option,” in a conference held in Delhi.
CEC Demands Substantiation for Claims by Rahul Gandhi
The Chief Election Commissioner of India has demanded that either proper evidence be produced for the allegations or they be withdrawn, as such allegations harm people's faith in the constitution.
He also said, "Preparation of electoral rolls and casting of votes are two different processes under two separate laws. When a voter goes to vote and presses the button, he can press it only once… vote theft cannot happen.”
ECI Dismisses Rahul’s Accusations as Baseless
ECI has strongly dismissed all the allegations made by Rahul Gandhi. Gyanesh Kumar also said that “When politics is being done by targeting the voters of India by keeping a gun on the shoulder of the Election Commission, today the Election Commission wants to make it clear to everyone that the Election Commission fearlessly stood like a rock with all the voters of all sections and all religions, including the poor, rich, elderly, women, youth, without any discrimination. It is still standing and will continue to stand.”
Furthermore, he also acccused Rahul of misleading fts, saying, “If someone thinks that he can use a PPT presentation to falsify data and misinterpret facts, then that act is against both the law and the Constitution.” This statement came on the same day, shortly after Gandhi initiated the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar.
In support of the ECI, Gyanesh Kumar ended his argument by saying that the ECI is not scared and that the EC conducts its duties with fearlessness, ensuring no discrimination happens based on class or faith. He further added that, “The EC stood with Indian voters like a rock, stands with them like a rock, and will continue to be with them like a rock.”
Gyanesh also emphasized that with the support of seven crore voters of Bihar, there can be no doubt or question raised on the credibility of the Election Commission or the voters.
