A day after the tragic road accident in Delhi, resulting in the death of a senior Union Finance Ministry official, Navjot Singh, a clear sabotage angle is revealed. Delhi Police took Gaganpreet Kaur into custody, who was allegedly driving the speeding BMW car that hit the motorcycle. Gaganpreet and her husband are currently under custody in a case of culpable homicide, rash driving, and destruction of evidence.

The Accident

Navjot Singh, 52, a deputy secretary in the economic affairs department of the Indian Finance Ministry, was a resident of Hari Nagar. He was returning from Bangla Sahib Gurdwara with his wife, Sandeep Kaur, on Sunday (September 14) afternoon. Eyewitnesses confirmed the BMW, driven by a woman, struck the couple’s motorcycle after colliding with the central verge and losing control near Dhaula Kuan on Ring Road.

After the accident, Navjot and Sandeep were taken to a hospital in a Maruti Eeco porter car. Gaganpreet took the victims at least 19 kilometers from the accident site to reach Nulife Hospital in Mukherjee Nagar, North Delhi. This act raised questions about the sabotage angle. Gulfam, the driver of the van, said he spotted Navjot and Sandeep at the crash site and rushed to help. Gaganpreet instructed him to drive towards Azadpur. "Over the phone, she was asking someone to keep beds ready," he told news agencies.

Navjot Singh's son, Navnoor Singh, raised questions over taking victims to a hospital far away: "Time is critical. Maybe he would have survived if he had been taken to a nearby hospital."

"A family friend called to inform me that my parents had met with an accident. I thought it must be a minor accident because my father is a careful driver. I was not very worried. But when we went to the hospital, it didn't make sense to me why my parents were admitted to a hospital in GTB Nagar when the accident happened near Dhaula Kuan," Navnoor added.

Police investigation revealed that Gaganpreet's father is one of the three owners of the hospital. An investigation is underway to check if there was an attempt to manipulate the evidence.

Driver Held & Charged

The 38-year-old Gaganpreet is married to Parikshit Makkad, 40, who was also in the car at the time of the crash near Delhi Cantonment metro station. The police came to know that the couple runs a business of luxury leather products and lives in Gurugram. Visuals confirmed Gaganpreet being brought out of a hospital in GTB Nagar, after treatment of minor injuries, and carried in a police vehicle.

Earlier on Monday, Delhi Police registered an FIR for Sections 281 (drive or ride in a rash or careless way that endangers human life), 125 B (anyone who carelessly endangers human life or safety—whether or not harm is caused), 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 238 (deliberately conceal evidence or provide false information to protect the offender) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
